Savings fund home improvements

Savings are being used to pay for home improvements as landlords and other homeowners look to add value to their properties, new research has indicated.

A study from the National Home Improvement Show revealed that 62 per cent of new features added to houses are funded by savings.

The organisation has urged people to ensure they only make changes that they can afford and to stick to strict budgets.

Michael Holmes, TV presenter, editor-in-chief of Real Homes magazine and spokesman for the National Home Improvement Show, said that budgets are not as fluid as in the past for many homeowners.

He added: "As belts tighten and the ability to secure additional finance to pay for unexpected expenses remaining reduced, home-improvers need to be aware of how to stick to a budget and keep costs down."

Earls Court in London will host the National Home Improvement Show from October 2nd to 4th.
