Importance of landlord insurance highlighted by expert

The importance of taking out appropriate landlord insurance has been highlighted by one property expert.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Zoomf's Katie McLoughlin said that property-related problems, albeit small ones, are inevitable "regardless of the size of their property portfolio".

"Standard building and contents policies may not cover the property if you rent it out so you will need specialist landlord's insurance," she explained.

"If you're letting the property on a furnished basis be sure to check your policy includes contents cover."

She also recommended undertaking thorough background checks before entering an agreement with a potential tenant.

Landlord insurance should be regarded as a necessity among those looking at renting out a property.

As well as providing protection, they offer landlords peace of mind in case a problem does occur.

Paragon Mortgages said this week that landlords are expecting an increase in portfolio values for the first time in more than two years.

On average, they expect a portfolio value rise of 0.8 per cent over the next 12 months.
