Residential landlords could see void periods drop, with available properties reaching a wider audience, if online search engine Google launches a UK property portal. The firm is in talks to launch the service early next year, according to media reports yesterday (December 3rd).A similar service, which allows estate agents to list properties for free, was launched by Google in Australia earlier this year.If the plans get the go-ahead it can "only be a good thing" for the industry, said Selwyn Lim, director of property market information provider Mouseprice."From a consumer and an estate agents' perspective, it is very good news as it will bring more competition to the marketplace," he said.Google's entry to the market could be a blow to local newspapers and similar property sites, like Rightmove, who currently charge to list properties and gain income from advertising."With Google coming into the UK as anticipated over the next year, it adds another question mark over whether Rightmove can continue ramping up their prices as they have been doing," Mr Lim.Get a cheap landlord's insurance quote today from Simple Landlords Insurance.
