Changes to how the Local Housing Allowance operates have been urged by the National Landlords Association (NLA).The organisation, which represents the interests of people letting out their properties, said that the payment system is causing problems for landlords.Local Housing Allowance was introduced in April last year and involves rent being paid directly to tenants instead of landlords to cover housing costs. However, there have been many cases of tenants not making their payments to landlords, which have resulted in people choosing not to let their properties to tenants on housing benefits.David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, said: "The reality is that both tenants and landlords are losing out under the current rules. "The NLA is hearing about more and more landlords who are refusing to let to Local Housing Allowance tenants. We need more affordable housing in the UK, not less - action is needed and it is needed now."Get a landlord insurance quote today from Simple Landlords Insurance.
