Feature walls 'can be a cheap way to improve a property'

Residential landlords do not need to spend a fortune when redecorating their properties to attract tenants, it has been suggested.

By using paint instead of wallpaper, feature walls can be created at a much cheaper cost, according to leading interior designer Adrienne Chinn.

Ms Chinn, who is chief interior designer at Adrienne Chinn Design and a member of the British Institute of Interior Design, said paint can be a cheap but effective substitute for wallpaper when it comes to redecorating.

"You don't even have to do the whole room – in the way that you can use wallpaper on a feature wall you can also use paint on a feature wall and have just the one wall of a room done in a more vibrant colour," she explained.

The design expert added that bright colours are becoming more popular as people are looking to lift their spirits amid the depression of the economic downturn.
