The repossession system should benefit those who are doing all they can to pay off their debts, it has been claimed.Al Elliott, co-owner of the Home-owners Advice Centre, has called for a system which "differentiates" between those who make an effort to pay and those who are "reckless" with their borrowing. The comments follow the publication of a Ministry of Justice consultation, which is to discuss whether or not a minimum level of debt should be reached before a court can order the sale of a home. However, Mr Elliott argued that an alternative system which assisted those who are trying to pay off their debts, rather than those who feel they are "secure in the knowledge that bankruptcy would discharge them from their obligations", would be a better option."It would therefore provide those homeowners who are genuinely trying to repay their debts a good degree of protection from further, likely unjustified action," he said.Get a landlords insurance quote today from Simple Landlords Insurance.
