2010 to be 'a good year' for landlords

This year is going to be a good one for residential landlords in the UK, it has been suggested.

Iammoving.com, the UK's only free online change of address service, said that landlords can expect a buoyant rental market over the next 12 months.

The comment comes as a new report from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) revealed that house prices in the UK have risen by ten per cent since their low point in April last year.

Jon Brown, partner and relationship manager at iammoving.com, said that while the increase is good news for the housing market, a return to pre-recession levels should not be expected.

He said: "As much as there has been a small recovery in the housing market the majority of the UK public, while perhaps aspiring to buy a house will still prefer to rent.

"This [may] lead to a residential property model similar to that of Germany with longer term residential lets."
