Letting industry needs 'complete overhaul'

Individuals with landlords insurance need to be prepared for possible future legislation requiring all residential landlords to become part of a national register.

Writing to the Liverpool Post, Action Group general secretary Richard Globe stated that, should they win the general election in May, Labour is likely to implement its plans for a national landlords register in addition to strengthened regulations for residential letting agencies.

Mr Globe believes that, while there are many "honest and hard working" landlords and landlord representative organisations, the industry is not held in particularly high regard.

"The lettings industry is in desperate need of a complete and urgent overhaul and the restoration of a very tarnished reputation," he wrote to the newspaper.

He went on to state that the first priority should be to eliminate landlords who have little respect for the law and those who choose to ignore safety regulations.

Merseyside and Wirral Property Landlords Action Group held its final meeting of last year in November, when the National Landlords Association's Tom Reynolds the guest speaker, WirralNews.co.uk reported.
