Energy customers urged to shop around

The fact that energy suppliers are not doing more to make customers aware of their best deals is "scandalous".

This is the view of consumer advice service Confused.com, which urged energy customers to shop around to get the best deals.

Gareth Kloet, head of energy at the price comparison site, moved to remind customers that despite recent price cuts, online deals are still cheaper than many standard tariffs.

The advice could be of interest to a number of homeowners including residential landlords offering their properties on an all-bills-included basis.

Mr Kloet said: "The major suppliers have now all announced that they're dropping their gas prices but don't be tricked into thinking that the 'cheapest standard' is the sale of the century when it comes to gas and electricity prices.

"Whilst providers champion their standard tariffs they are simply fighting to show energy customers that they have the best of the worst when it comes to tariffs available on the market."
