The Conservative Party has called on the government to have a "rethink" on its housing proposals.According to the National Landlords Association (NLA), party leader David Cameron recently called for the Town and Country Planning Order to be revoked. The NLA said the "ill-conceived" order would limit access to shared housing and was rushed through without Parliamentary debate. Simon Gordon, the organisation's head of communications, said: "MPs are now waking up to the potentially devastating impact of this policy which will effectively allow local authorities to limit the amount of shared housing. "Landlords and tenants now need to see their MPs get behind this issue. Let's not forget this policy would mean a cap on housing not just for students and migrant workers, but for many who do not have the luxury of buying their own home and cannot afford to rent on their own."The NLA recently claimed that government mistakes in the handling of Local Housing Allowance have resulted in landlords being owed £220 million in rent arrears.Get a landlords insurance quote today from Simple Landlords Insurance.
