House insurance policies are often claimed on for a variety of reasons, yet Confused.com has recently argued that many people don't know where they stand in regards to the cover on their own possessions. In light of the discovery that the main reason for a contents insurance claim is due to accidental damage, Confused.com went on to highlight how many people overlook protection of possessions due to a rental agreement that they have entered into.The price comparison website explained: "Just because you don't own your home, this doesn’t mean you don't need to protect your possessions. If you're a tenant, there will usually be no need for you to take out cover against any problems suffered by the building itself, such as storm damage to the roof or frozen pipes - issues such as those are the landlord's responsibility. Confused.com added: "But as far as your own possessions go, it is up to you to arrange protection with a contents insurance policy." It went on to add that given accidental damage's position at the top of the list of claims, it is essential that you protect yourself by getting a personal policy.
