Residential landlords in the UK could be inspired to make regular checks on their properties after a "nightmare" incident in Bournemouth.Landlord Chris Akaidere, who also works as a builder and shop fitter, has been left with a £5,000 repair bill after tenants turned his Charminster property into a cannabis factory, the Bournemouth Daily Echo reported. The incident could also encourage property investors to get a landlords contents insurance quote after the tenants caused damage to the property's electrical works, carpets, floors and the roof.Landlords should also ensure regular checks are carried out as failing to do so can result in an insurance claim being turned down.Mr Akaidere's son Ollie told the newspaper: "The carpets have got to be replaced and the ceilings re-plastered. It will cost £800 to £1,000 to reconnect the electricity." "I'm gutted because I'm not insured for the contents. But what can I do? It's tough luck," his father added.Police raided the property after a neighbour reported an orange glow coming from a window. The raid uncovered £212,500 worth of cannabis plants in the house, which had every room bar one converted to grow the plants.Posted by James CurtisGet a landlords contents insurance quote today from Simple Landlords Insurance.
