More than half (56 per cent) of homeowners have carried out some improvement work on their property over the past year, new research has revealed. The study by Halifax found that, on average, landlords and other owners are spending around 6,000 on DIY jobs on their properties.According to the mortgage lender, this is an increase of 1,000 on the previous year, with the majority spending their money on painting jobs.Improvements to gardens and purchasing new furnishings are also popular areas owners spend their money on.The main reason cited for home improvement jobs was to make the house look better."We have always enjoyed DIY and home improvements remain high on the list," commented Stephen Noakes, commercial director at Lloyd's Banking Group."Our research shows that more and more homeowners are picking up their brushes and paint and using their creativity to improve their surroundings, particularly in this market where we are seeing [fewer] house purchases."Get a landlord insurance quote today from Simple Landlords Insurance.Posted by Luella Ravelin
