Landlords in 'complex profession'

Being a landlord is not a simple job and people need to be dedicated and professional in order to do it well.

That is the view of the Residential Landlords Association (RLA), which has called for landlords to make sure they know all of the possibilities when getting into the rented property sector.

This follows the case of a landlord in Preston being forced to sell his home due to tenants wrecking the property.

Around £6,000 of damage was caused after the tenants were told to leave due to unpaid rent, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.

A spokesman for the RLA indicated that issues such as these can be resolved by following the proper procedures laid out in rules and regulations.

He told the newspaper: "These days, it's no business for amateurs - it's a very complex profession.

"At the last count, there are about 70 pieces of legislation a person needs to be aware of about the whole letting procedure."
