Property prices 'to shoot up next spring'

People with landlords insurance will see the property market "kick-start" in spring 2010, it has been suggested.

Jane Marr, company director at the Little House Company, said that although prices were rising at the moment, the "real" increases would only be seen next year.

She added that London and the south-east of England would see strong gains, which would then go on to influence the remaining housing market.

"Demand, it seems, is greater and inventories seem to be smaller in this area of the country," Ms Marr explained.

"There is now pent-up demand for people who want to move and we feel that spring 2010 will see buyers more inspired to make that move and [provide] a real kick-start to the UK housing market."

The comments follow reports suggesting that house prices are on the rise, with the Land Registry House Price Index noting that there has been a 1.7 per cent increase in prices in July compared to August.
