50/50 split between Fa-la-la-la landlords and Bah-humbug businesses

Monday 24 December 2018

Here at Simple Landlords Insurance we wanted to find out how landlords deal with Christmas.

The good news is that nearly half get into the festive spirit, and plan to buy their tenants a gift or card this Christmas - according to our snap poll.

Slightly over half, though, 54%, felt it was inappropriate to send a card or a gift as being a landlord is a business. Just over one in ten said they were worried tenants might be offended on religious or personal grounds.

Of the gift and card-givers, planned presents included gifts chocolates or sweets, wine and even presents for tenants’ children. Some though rare (2%), said they would give money off rent for the Christmas holiday.

A minority of landlords were also conscious of the additional risks posed to property and possessions over December.

One in five (21%) said they ask their tenants to inform them if they are going away for more than a few days over the period, 16% remind tenants that the risk of burglary increases in December and 11% send reminders about rules on candles or Christmas lights.
