Love Thy Boiler
Wednesday 07 February 2018
It’s February, Valentine’s Day is looming, and we reckon it might well be time to lavish a bit of love on your boiler...
Boilers have been working hard all winter long, and that intensive work out can result in burn-out before Spring.
February is the month we see the most boiler breakdowns here at Simple, and it could be more costly than you might think.
Last year nearly a fifth of households had at least one boiler breakdown, and UK families paid out more than £780 million for boiler repairs - averaging out at £270 per repair.
What’s more, most boiler breakdowns require two visits before things are back up and running - one to diagnose the problem and a second to come back with the appropriate part. That’s potentially a long time for your tenants to be left in the cold.
So getting ahead of the game and making sure your boiler is in tip top condition could save you and them a lot of time and hassle.
Alex Huntley, Head of Operations at Simple Landlords Insurance, said: “Home emergency cover is designed for landlords who want to take the fuss out of boiler breakdowns, and more extensive policies might cover other appliances and emergencies. Problems can be fixed fast, and it’s a great option for hands-off or distant landlords.
“There’s lots of other things you can do to show your boiler you care, too! Get it serviced, make it part of your regular inspections, and make sure your tenants know who to contact if something does go wrong. As back-up, make sure your properties also have carbon monoxide detectors installed as well. Love your boiler, and it’ll love you back.”
