City recognises top landlords at awards ceremony
Tuesday 27 November 2018
Outstanding landlords in Sheffield have been recognised for going above and beyond their duty to provide good quality housing at an awards ceremony.
The city council’s Private Housing Standards Team runs the Landlord Awards ceremony each year to highlight the services available to private sector tenants and encourage them to be proud of having a good landlord.
Councillor Jim Steinke, cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety said: "We want to encourage people to expect more out of their private rented properties.
"We want them to know that if they don’t have a good landlord or if they have any concerns, however small, they can follow this up and ask our Private Housing Standards Team for advice and support.
"It’s certainly good to see our top landlords and agents being rewarded for the standards they work to for their tenants."
Nominations were received by tenants of the landlords and agents and the winners of the awards were picked via a panel.
‘Fit and proper checks’ were carried out to verify what was said about landlords and agents in the nomination papers.
The Landlord Awards were sponsored by UniHomes, the Private Rented Solutions Award was sponsored by the Private Rented Solutions Team and the Snug Landlord of the Year Award was sponsored by by the Students Unions at Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield. Sheffield City Council thanks them for their support.
The awards night at The Mercure Sheffield St Pauls hotel raised £504 for two local charities: The Snowdrop Project and Sheffield Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service.
Richard Truman, Head of Operations at Simple Landlord Insurance, said: "It's encouraging to see a local authority building a positive relationship with local landlords.
"And it's great to be reminded that the vast majority of landlords are not only decent, honest and hardworking people, but they also do their best to provide high quality accommodation for their tenants."
