Even if you or your tenant loses your keys in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, you can get help on the 24-hour emergency helpline which is open 365 days a year. As long as you report your claim to us first and keep all your receipts, you can choose your own locksmith for the job.
Sometimes bad luck strikes more than once, so our cover protects you for up to £1500 of repair and replacements a year, as well as five duplicate keys in the event that your locks are replaced. You can make an unlimited number of claims during this period up to the total of £1500.
Our landlord key protection insurance covers the cost of locksmith callouts and replacement keys. We can’t cover the loss, theft or damage of keys that have been given or lent out to anyone else – but we do cover you and your tenants. So if someone loses a key or has it stolen, we’re here to help.

Landlords key protection cover is special insurance for the keys and locks to your rental property! It means that if a tenant loses their keys, gets locked out, or manages to damage keys or locks, you’ll get them replaced on your insurance.
Key protection cover can be useful if you’ve got a house of multiple occupancy (HMO) with multiple sets of keys, a high turn-over of tenants, or tenants who are likely to take less care of your keys – a reputation that students have, for instance. If you have multiple lock-outs or lost key incidents, it might be worth the investment.
Key protection cover from Simple Landlords Insurance is £15 a year, so just over £1 a month.
Your tenants need to let you know, and as the policy holder, you’ll need to call up our key claims team. It’s classed as an emergency, and we’ve got locksmiths on call 24 hours - so you should be sorted pretty quickly!
You must notify the police of all stolen keys or damage to your locks from a break-in, and obtain a crime reference number – we cannot pay out for any theft claim that has not been reported to the police. As in the case of lost keys, you can call our claims team for an emergency locksmith or arrange your own if you prefer to do so. You must provide receipts for any reimbursement based claims.
We do not pay out for damage caused by wear and tear, a lack of general maintenance, or where an incident was caused by your reckless, deliberate or criminal act or omission. This policy does not include cover for any telephone costs, loss of earnings or profits which arise as a result of the loss, theft or damage of your keys or locks.
Make sure you retain all receipts or invoices when making a claim.
